Music has different meanings to every individual. Every person has a favorite genre of music and sometimes we find people who listen to the same type of music that we like which brings us closer. There are various types of music genres, which have their own characteristics and history. Here are the few main music genres that almost everyone listens to.

Rock
Rock music achieved its popularity in the 1960s, starting with The Beatles, The Doors, The rolling stones and many more. This type of music evolved as a part of Rock and Roll, rhythm and blues, classical music and folk music that existed since early 1940s. Rock music mostly focuses on the electric guitar, the bass guitar and the drums. In this genre a typical song consists of a main part, chorus and an electric guitar solo. Currently those who do not really know much the music scene, consider any type of heavy music under the rock genre category. There are also many combinations of rock music with other genres which have created a different genre all by itself. Some these genres are folk rock, classical rock, punk rock, blues rock, jazz rock, soft rock, heavy metal, hard rock, grunge rock, progressive rock and as one the latest genres of rock music, which evolved in the 1990s is alternative rock.

Country Music and Folk Music
Country music is considered to be one the oldest genres of music. This genre came to existence in the 1920s in the southern part of the United States of America. This type of music mainly includes the acoustic guitar with the vocals of the singer.

The popular music that we generally listen to these days is quite different from when rock n’ roll started in the 1950s. Many people, including me still listen to classical rock music. How to form a Rock Band

Forming a band is not an easy task. There are many difficulties, sacrifices and steps involved while forming a band. Here are the steps to form a rock band.

Finding the right musicians with the right equipment
Generally in order to form a rock band you require at least one guitarist, a bassist, a drummer and a lead singer who can either play an instrument or not. You can find your band members by socializing amongst musicians and your friends by attending different concerts and gigs. There are also quite a few web sites available on the internet in which musicians can make their own profiles and post their videos for other musicians to see. This has made finding a band member so much simpler. You can find out what kinds of music genres are these musicians into and what kinds of skills do they really have without even having to meet them. By finding the right person, you can have a better chance of staying together as a band. Make sure that the person who you are going to jam with has his equipment ready.

Naming your band
The best way to name your band is to discuss it with the band mates. It should be something that everyone agrees on. Sometimes naming your band is a very difficult task and it cannot be done over night. The names for rock bands should be simple and easy to remember, hear, spell and read. You can pick a name that is of sentimental value to you or just something that sounds cool.

Choose a Genre
Everyone has different tastes and favorite genres of music. One band cannot play different types of music. So you should remember to discuss with your band members and decide your specific fields of interest.

Band contract
Making a band contract is something that not all the bands are willing to make. This contract offers the band members protection for the original songs that each member has written and what all they can do with these songs and the name of the band in the future. Making band contract can avoid arguments in the future.

Jamming room
All the bands require a Jamming room. A jamming room is a space (preferably soundproofed) where the band members can practice and play their songs without causing any type of disturbances for neighboring areas. Generally all the band members keep all their equipments in the jamming room. So make sure it is a safe place to leave your equipments.

Chemistry
In order to become good at what you are doing you need to have a good chemistry with other band members. This can be achieved by regular practice. You get to know your band members better along their weaknesses and strong points.

You can start practicing and covering songs with your band members. But after you have had enough practice you need to start writing your own original songs and practice it with the band members. You should have as many original songs as you can.

Record a demo
You will need to record few of your original songs as demos. You sell these as shows and gigs and also give them to managers and record companies.

Playing at a gig
If you want to perform at a gig then it is necessary for you to make a press kit. The music industries will look at your resume or your EPK before booking your band. (Electronic press kit) you will need to publicize your band and your band’s work a lot. You can also post videos on the internet.

FADE TO BLAC K(METALLICA): Yet another superbly created song by Metallica, this song has a very slow beginning and soon very effectively increases its volume and tempo to create a rifle in the listener’s mind. The intro and outro of this song is mind blowing and with its exquisite drum rolls, solos and vocals, this song cannot be described in words.

7. BEAST AND THE HARLOT (AVENGED  SEVENFOLD):  Avenged Sevenfold being a truly incredible band introduced this song which evoked a lot of emotion through hitting a metal string fast. They are believed to make better metal and hard rock songs with Beast and the Harlot considered one of their best compositions with the vocals, drums and guitar knit in this song really well.

8.  ONE (METALLICA): Metallica just doesn’t seem to get off the countdown of the top ten with its yet another popular metal piece, One.  Having the perfect balance of heavy guitaring, drumming and vocals, this song does not only capture your heart at the first go but it also invokes the real meaning behind the song. One is known to be one of the greatest compositions of Metallica.

9. PAINKILLER (JUDAS PRIEST): This song is meant to send the shivers down your spine. Regarded as one of the masterpieces in the heavy metal genre, with its excellent composition and lyrics, this song has those screams, solos and riffs, making it one of the most energizing metal pieces you’d have ever heard.

Top Ten Psychedelic Music

So if you are into ever-changing beats, strange melodies, mind boggling sounds and high tempo riffs; this article is for you.  It strikes a deep-rooted longing to experience the abnormal. Find out for yourself the top ten psychedelic music listed.

1. Tristan- Lord of Fives
Tristan gave us a darker sound that no one expected. As Psytrance picked up with happy psychedelic sounds, Tristan dove into the darker side of our minds.Perhaps a proto release of Dark Psytrance, Audiodrome, has all the warm feeling of raw analogue sound but with a touch of anger.

2. Talamasca
Out of all that is listed on my top 10 Psytrance list, Talamasca is the only one that I have begun to grow old of but find their older albums more and more amazing.The original releases of Talamasca breathed a new life into the Psytrance genre. Unfortunately, their later offerings have begun to dry up the old school sound.

3. Pleiadians
Is it possible that Pleiadians is the greatest Psytrance artist to grace the genre? It quite possibly is so.Crossing the line between GOA and Psytrance, Pleiadians is the quintessential example that labels do not dictate your sound. Whatever you want to label Pleiadian’s music as, it’s one thing: perfection.

4. Man with no name
Man with No Name has become a legend with the Psytrance genre. If you were to talk to any Psytrance junkie, Man with No Name will definitely spill from their lips.Man with No Name came into the scene with force and quietly walked away with a memorable taste in our mouths. You can’t call yourself a true Psytrance fan if you don’t know the classic tune: Teleport.

5. Electric Universe
Electric Universe makes this list for their combination of increasing perfection in each release and the dedication to their sound. I’m a sucker for acid bass lines; Electric Universe takes the cake. That squelch from each sound coming from the 303 is such a great compliment to the psychedelic sound.

6. Koxbox
Koxbox brings to us release after release of pounding Psytrance tracks. No short of amazing, Koxbox is another classic example of Psytrance done right. Put on any of Koxbox’s albums to hear why it made my top 10 Psytrance list.

7. Eat Static
If you thought Astral Projection was the only one to make the list with a long history of producing Psytrance, Eat Static has basically been around since the beginning. The release of Implant gained them a special place on this list. Implant is a classic Psytrance album that perfectly sums up the sound during the early nineties.

8. Astral Projection
A heavy contender in the Psytrance community, Astral Projection has been around for ages. Although it can be debated that Astral Projection has more of a GOA sound, their influence over Psytrance cannot be omitted.
With nearly a dozen releases, Astral Projection has cemented their place in the Psytrance genre with amazing releases one after another.

9. Doof
Not to give Hallucinogen all the light on this list, Doof holds a special place on my list as one of the best artist the Psytrance genre has seen. Doof’s raw sound crafts two amazing albums: Let’s Turn On and It’s About Time.
The squelching acid bass lines combined with mind blowing psychedelic sounds perfectly create everything that Doof has to offer.

10. Hallucinogen
At the top of my list, and probably for many people that love Psytrance, is Simon Posford’s Hallucinogen. Hallucinogen has become the classic sound of Psytrance and it’s no contest due to the phenomenal releases through the years.
Hallucinogen brings the most unique and powerful sound to the Psytrance genre. Since the release of Twisted in 1995, all other albums have been shadowed by the release.
