Mouth ulcers are small sized sores that are surrounded by red halos. These are also known as canker sores. These ulcers are very painful and are formed within the mouth on tongue, cheeks, gums etc. The reason behind the occurrence of mouth ulcers are –
Consumption of spicy food, certain hormonal changes, constipation, oral hygiene, vitamin B or vitamin C deficiency etc.
Mouth ulcers are generally yellow or white in colour. At times the pain can be so severe that the person may have difficulty in speaking as well. Thus, if not treated at the initial level, this can last up to 10days or more causing immense discomfort.
Homemade remedies for mouth ulcers are:
- Basil (tulsi) leaves work magic on mouth ulcers. Chew 2-3 basil leaves daily and drink water. If the ulcer is very painful and there is a problem while chewing, then a paste can be made and applied in the affected region.
- Fenugreek (methi) seeds have to be powdered and mixed with water. Then this mixture has to be consumed daily. Similarly, fenugreek seed powder mixed with green gram and onion in water can also be consumed. If you are unable to consume it due the bitter taste, fenugreek seeds can be boiled in water and gargling can be done 2-3 times daily.
- Turmeric is a natural antiseptic. Consumption of turmeric milk before going to bed at night helps in healing mouth ulcers. Also, gargling with turmeric water helps. To make turmeric water, mix a pinch of turmeric into adequate amount of water. Gargling should be done 2-3 times in a day. Lastly, turmeric can be mixed with glycerin and applied on the affected area.
- Daily consumption of curd with banana in the morning is an effective way of curing mouth ulcers.
- Consumption of raw onions or food containing onions daily helps getting rid of these sores.
- Eating raw tomatoes also helps in curing ulcers. And due to some reason if the tomatoes cannot be consumed directly, one can drink tomato juice or gargle with it.
- One of the reasons for the cause of mouth ulcer is the lack of vitamin C in our daily diet. So in order to cure it, a lot of foods rich in vitamin C like oranges, yoghurt, cottage cheese etc works.
- Application of a paste made of baking soda and water works.
- Application of raw glycerin on the affected area helps.
- Massaging the area with coconut milk daily reduces the ulcer.
- Application of tooth paste in the affected area works.
