There are many engineering colleges in India.Students get quite confused while choosing a college for their higher education in engineering field. here is a list of top ten engineering colleges in India.

1. IIT Kharagpur

The IIT (Indian Institute of Technology) in Kharagpur is an engineering, technology and management institute of higher education. This autonomous institute was established in the year 1951 the Central Government of India. This was the IIT to be established and it is of high significance to the government of India.
The main purpose of the establishment to this institute was to train engineers and scientists after the independence. The campus of this institute covers an area of about 2,100 acres with numerous departments and most student enrollment amongst all IITs all across India.
Indian Institute of Technology in Kharagpur offers courses of undergraduate and postgraduate of computer science engineering, electrical engineering and electrical and electronics communication engineering at both undergraduate and postgraduate level.

2. IIT Bombay

The IIT (Indian Institute of Technology) in Bombay, also known as IITB, is a public research university. This institute, located in Powai, Mumbai has 14 departments, 10 multi-disciplinary centers and 3 schools of excellence. This institute was established in the year 1958 which makes it the second oldest Indian institute of technology.
IITB offers courses of undergraduate and postgraduate such as Aerospace Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Computer Science engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering, Materials science and Physics.

3. IIT Kanpur

Indian Institute of Technology in Kanpur also known as IITK is a university located in Uttar Pradesh close to Kanpur City. This institute was established in the year 1959 right after the IITB in Mumbai. This institute was formed with the help and consolation of nine US research universities.
This institute offers courses of B.Tech, M.Tech in aerospace engineering, biological science and bio-engineering, chemical engineering, civil engineering, computer science and engineering, electrical, materials and metallurgical engineering and finally mechanical engineering.

4. IIT Delhi

The Indian Institute of Technology in Delhi also referred to as IITD is another one of IIT colleges in India. The campus of this institute covers an area of 320 acres in totality. IITD has about 13 departments with each department consisting of its own administration and a head of the department.
Indian Institute of Technology Delhi offers courses of B.Tech in Chemical engineering, computer science and engineering, civil engineering, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, Production and Industrial engineering, physics, textile engineering and also M.Tech in Information and Communication Technology.

5. IIT Madras

Indian Institute of Technology Madras is one of the engineering and technology schools of IIT. This institute is located in Chennai which was formerly known as Madras in the southern part of the country. This institute was established in the year 1959 with consolation of the former West Germany by the Government of India. The campus of this institute covers an area of about 620 acres.
This institute offers courses such as Aerospace engineering, applied mechanics, biotechnology, Chemical engineering, Chemistry, civil engineering, computer science and engineering, electrical engineering, engineering design, humanities and social sciences, management studies, Mathematics, Mechanical engineering, Metallurgical and Materials engineering, ocean engineering and physics.

6. BITS Pilani

Birla Institute of Technology and Science is a private university situated in the city of Pilani in the state of Rajasthan. This is one of the most prestigious and selective institutes in India. This university mostly is focused on the education in engineering and the sciences. The institute was established in the year 1964 with 15 departments. This completely residential and private institute admits students fully based on merit and not on any kind of reservation.

7. IIT Roorkee

IIT Roorkee is another one of Indian Institutes of Technology which was formerly known as University of Roorkee. This university was originally located in the city of Roorkee in Uttarakhand, which was established in 1847 and converted into an IIT. This institute has been ranked as the seventh institute of Technology in India. The 28 departments of this institute cover engineering, applied sciences, humanities and social sciences as well and management programs.
The courses offered in this institute are Aerospace engineering, Chemical engineering, civil engineering, computer science and engineering department, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, Metallurgical engineering and materials science and finally engineering in physics.

8. IT-BHU

The Institute of Technology- Banaras Hind University is one of the most well-known engineering colleges located in Varanasi city in the state of Uttar Pradesh. This engineering university was established in 1919 which makes it one of the oldest universities in all of India. There are 13 departments and 3 disciplinary schools in this university.
There are courses offered such as Bioengineering and biomedical Technology, civil engineering, structural engineering, electrical engineering etc.

9. IIT Guwahati

The Indian Institute of Technology Located in Guwahati is another one of the IITs. This autonomous engineering institute is much technology oriented. This significant institute was established in the year 1994 by an act of parliament. The campus covers an area of 700 acres consisting of the departments of Biotechnology, Chemical engineering, Chemistry, Civil engineering, Computer science and engineering, Design, Electronics and communication engineering, humanities, Mathematics, Mechanical engineering, physics and finally electrical engineering.

10. College of Engineering Anna University

Located in Chennai, college of engineering, Guindy is the oldest engineering and technical institution in all of India. This institute was established in the year 1794. The courses offered by this institute are Agricultural Engineering, Bio Medical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Computer Science and Engineering, Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Material Science and Engineering and many more.

Nice write-up.. But dont you think higher education in India needs a lot from computer training.Stilly, there are thouands of villages in India which need attention.Computer courses in India need government feedback as well for their smooth functioning.
