Unknown Secrets of Green Tea


Ever since its discovery by the Chinese over 4000 years ago, green tea has been quite popular among the Chinese and Japanese people. Of late, the other countries of the world have also started enjoying green tea and many have included it as a part of their daily diet. A recent statistical survey conducted by the World Bank Group has inferred upon the fact that the Japanese people have the longest lifespan in the world. The average life span of the Japanese men is around 78 years, while that of women is 85 years. It is quite a large number.
Now the question is as more and more people all across the planet are switching over to green tea, there has to be some benefits linked to it. There are a lot of benefits of consuming green tea. We are aware of what all it can do, most of it. But the reason as to why it is so healthy is for the fact that it contains various antioxidants. Due these antioxidants, it helps in -
  • Preventing cancer. Nowadays due to the hike in the pollution level, the disease cancer has become a very common phenomenon taking the lives of plenty. It contains the antioxidant known as epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG) which helps in reducing most cases of stomach cancer. This antioxidant not only prevents the growth of these malignant cells, but also destroys the existing malignant cells that will eventually lead to cancer.
  •  Lowering high cholesterol rate.  This basically explains the fact that how tea drinkers can consume double the amount of food rich in cholesterol. It has been found out that green tea extracts prevents the oxidation of cholesterol in our body. Which otherwise would inflame the blood vessels in the human body and lead to cardio-vascular diseases.
  • Lowering high blood pressure.  Green tea reduces angiotensin II, which otherwise lead to the constriction of the blood vessels eventually leading to the pressure to rise.
  •  Lowering of high blood sugar. It contains antioxidants like polyphenols and polysaccharides that prevent the occurrence of the type-two diabetes and also cures a person of it.
  •  Digestion and getting rid of bad breath. Green tea was traditionally used for digestion and the deodorizing effect of it is strongly related to the polypehonolic elements that has the capability to suppress the action of Methyl Mercaptan , one of the main reasons behind bad breath.
  •  Weight loss.  Since green tea helps in digestion, it also has the potential for fat metabolism. This helps in reducing the weight of the human body. It also should be kept in mind that contains caffeine and caffeine overdose can be harmful.
  •  Promoting oral health. It suppresses the plaque formation in the mouth and kills the bacterium that promotes plaque formation. Thus, it is suggested that after the consumption of something sweet, green tea should be consumed.
Like everything has its pros and cons, green tea too has some cons. Excessive consumption of green tea may lead to the following disorders –
  •  Sleeplessness
  •  Dizziness
  •  Diarrhea
  •  Irregular heart beat
  •  Vomiting
  •  Severe Headache
  •  Loss of Appetite
  •  Miscarriage if you are pregnant
Thus, it is advisable not to consume more than 3 to 4 cups of green tea as a part of your daily diet. People who are sensitive to caffeine or are pregnant should consume green tea supplements.
