In order to make your portfolio you will need photos taken by you. You can ask your friends and family to pose for your photos to keep in your portfolio. Make sure that the pictures in the portfolio are very attractive and appealing with high quality.
In the beginning try working for free for a while to build a name and a reputation for yourself as a photographer until the day that someone is ready to pay you for your services. After finding a paying client, make sure that your fee will commensurate with the equipment and the quality of your services. Do not charge too much and provide good services in the beginning to establish a good reputation for you as a family photographer.
